Listen to the words of the Lord as I bring them to you:
Like snow in summer or rain in harvest, honour is not fitting to a fool. (Proverbs 26:1)
Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest. (Proverbs 26:2)
Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you will be like him yourself. (Proverbs: 26:4)
Answer a fool according to his folly, or he will be wise in his own eyes. (Proverbs 26:5)
Like one who seizes a dog by the ears is a passer-by who meddles in a quarrel not his own. (Proverbs 26:17)
Like a madman shooting firebrands or deadly arrows is a man who decieves his neighbour and say, 'I was only joking!' (Proverbs 26:18-19)
Without wood a fire goes down; without gossip a quarrel dies down. As charcoal to embers and as wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome man for kindling strife. The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man's inmost parts. (Proverbs 26:20-22)
Like a coating of glaze over earthenware are fervent lips with an evil heart. A malicious man disguises himself with his lips but in his heart he harbours deciet. Though his speech is charning, do not believe him, for seven abominations fill his heart. His malice may be concealed by deception, but his wickedness wil be exposed in the assembly. (Proverbs 26:23-26)
